  6. A Real Gram-O-Phone

PicturesToExe is an absolutely fantastic piece of software!! This is a blast from the past... Back near Christmas of 2008 Tom began working on the idea of creating a Gram-0-Phone with PTE. He and I conspired over a week or so and we came up with some novel ways to use PTE. This is the culmination of that effort and I just stumbled across the exe today and thought it would be nice to see what could be done with PTE even six years ago - so here it is folks - the PTE Gram-0-Phone. Regretfully, it's only in Windows format because I've not been able to recover all the original files to update it to MacIntosh... I believe Tom had an even more sophisticated version but the link to it is no longer active - perhaps he will be able to find it and post the example here on Slideshow Club.

The "Reload" button will start things over. If left alone after clicking on the selection "A" button, the Gram-O-Phone will sequentially play all songs. You have the option of clicking on any of the selection buttons and playing that song. Clicking on the "Power" button will shut it down and exit. Have fun!!! Just for the record, the timing was set to be realistic with 78 revolutions per minute on the platter.

  9. Choupinette came back from Rome

At the time, it was just an exercise to discover and use the possibilities of the new 3D functions ( 6.0 version ).

It is said that from the Holy Thursday to the Easter Sunday, the bells are silent because they are at Rome. They return to distribute to the wise children full of chocolate eggs.
But now my little bell Choupinette (a gentle nickname for a little girl) is back at home, quite exhausted.

  12. Jean-Pierre's Penser Avec son Pinceau

Jean-Pierre Dollangère (JPD) was a pioneer in the use of PicturesToExe. His contributions to not only the development of the product, but to the understanding of using it for animations were incalculable. He showed us how to do things with PTE which even the developers didn’t realize were possible. To Jean-Pierre, the only limitation was one’s imagination.

JPD created his own web site, Diapositif, in France, dedicated to PicturesToExe. His many friends have kept not only his website and memory alive, but have continued his pioneering spirit by producing amazing shows using PTE
    .
Thanks to Eric and Jean-Cyprien of Diapositif, it was possible to get permission from Jean-Pierre’s children to post some of his work here on SlideshowClub. In this demonstration, Penser Avec Son Pinceau (Thinking With His Paintbrush) Jean Pierre shows a recreation of the work of the great French post impressionist painter and artist Paul Cézanne. This effort done entirely with PicturesToExe beta 6 in March of 2009 represents the zenith of a system JPD was developing to perhaps allow the unsophisticated user of PTE to do similar complex animations. Sadly JPD passed away on Thursday 4 March, 2010. We have all benefited immeasurably from his patience, explanations and dedication to PicturesToExe and he is greatly missed.

  17. Dolly Zoom Simulation In PicturesToExe

The dolly zoom effect is an in camera special effect that produces an unsettling look where the subject appears to be stationary with the background changing in size. With PicturesToExe this may be simulated by using the zoom and blur effects. This is a quick sample demo of how this effect may be approached using PTE.

  18. Mystery Artist

    Mystery Artist

A demo show made for an artist friend which uses a number of techniques possible with PicturesToExe. I used Jean Cyprien's Rubik's Cube and Kaleidoscope styles which each demonstrate some of the fantastic powers of PTE. I used David Gould's Icosahedron style as well. Also I use various masking techniques as well as Alpha Channel RGBA video with transparency and precise audio synchronization made easy with the PTE keypoint features. About a 60 meg download in MacIntosh and Windows PC formats.

  21. Demo - Alpha Channel Video With Alpha Matte Mask

A quick demonstration of the use of an alpha matte as a mask which reveals a color motion video. The green flowering plant in the back of the moving pickup truck is in motion. The motion of the plant and flowers in the breeze was created originally as an MOV video with an embedded alpha channel. Since PTE only directly supports RGBA avi video with embedded alpha channel, the original was taken into the freeware VideoPad Video Editor where high brightness and contrast with gamma adjustments were used to create a black and white version of the video. All transparent areas were made black while the flowering plant and flowers were made pure white. This file was then output in AVI format and became the pseudo alpha matte. The original mov with embedded alpha channel was also output as a color avi without the alpha channel. The pseudo alpha matte was used as the mask playing the color avi video and resulting in complete transparency for overlay on the still image backdrop. This approximately 13 second video shows the green plant placed in the back of a PNG pickup truck traveling across the screen. PNG files were used for motion on the truck wheels and a duplicate PNG portion was used to layer the tree which the truck passes behind. Use the keyboard ESC key to break the looped demo when desired.

  22. A Quest For Realism

This one was much more difficult to make than it might appear. The idea here was an attempt to get total realism in the flames, reflection on the brass casting on the fireplace and on the front of the couch in the bright area as well as completely altering the original image by adding my dog on asleep on the chair complete with lighting and matching shadows from the lamp, a painting above the fireplace, a totally different scene outside the windows and a number of other minor changes to the original image.

A real fire was video taped complete with sound, sparks, embers and such and the original fireplace was carefully replaced. Masking, three dimensional transforms and and other techniques were used to get the fire itself and the inside of the fireplace to look totally natural. Photoshop, screen captures and such were used to carefully create the masks for the flames reflection on the brass casting on the fireplace and reflections on the bright front of the edge of the couch. These required careful sizing, placement and opacity control. PNG transparencies were created to remove the original background outside the windows and replace them with a totally different scene. 3D transforms, masking and png transparencies were used to place the oil painting above the fireplace complete with realistic shadows, etc. A very simple scene, but hours of painstaking work in PTE as well as in PhotoShop was necessary to get the desired effects.

I was happy with the result because it adds those seemingly insignificant shadows, reflections and such to give the scene realism. Thanks to the fantastic capabilities of PTE this was possible. These techniques are some of the things I cover in some of my tutorials.

  24. Plasma Project

This is a demonstration of a number of interesting (at least to me) things which can be done with the extremely versatile PicturesToExe slideshow product.

First, there is the use of Alpha Channel Video with masking. Then there is the precise timing of the appearance of objects, the use of PNG objects - the Plasma Display was created in PhotoShop with the very nice PanosFX action. Then there is the ultra smooth panning of PTE, the ability to incorporate video and the use of specialized files prepared in PhotoShop to create the snow animations through the windows. Finally, use of specialized text effects allowed via the Three Dimensional Transforms to end the show with circular rotating 3D Text.

Note in the beginning that the candle flames on the candles on the mantel sequence on as does the candle located to the right of the fireplace. Then the small cabin model on the mantel emits smoke from the chimney. After the image on the Plasma Display pans to the far right, the television in the room comes to life playing a "Frostie The Snowman" cartoon. The scene pans back to the far left revealing more room detail and then eventually back to the right and the show ends with credits for PTE and PanosFX with a circular three dimensional text effect. Hopefully this type demo can encourage those wishing to learn these techniques to look at the many tutorials available on the PTE forum for further explanation and instructions.

Links are to normal executable, web-safe executable and native MacIntosh executable versions, all of about 25 megabyte download sizes.

  25. Mysterious Video Cube From The Sea

A mysterious video cube rises from the sea. Examples of multiple video displays on rotating cube, water effects, text effects and masking effects. PicturesToExe is an extremely versatile animation environment as well as being, in my opinion, the best overall presentation slideshow tool available. There are three types of download files available: Conventional Windows executable, Web Safe Windows executable (digitally signed executable with accompanying data file) and native MacIntosh executable file. To use the Web Safe PTE version, download zipped archive and extract both files into a folder. Click on the executable to play.
