  1. Put on a Happy Face

Every year since 2010 I've done a show on the Edinburgh Tattoo. This year I thought I'd concentrate on the faces which make up the Fringe and the Tattoo.
The soundtrack is ' Put on a Happy Face ' by Oscar Peterson.

  2. CONTRASTS OF A NORWEGIAN SUMMER

Late June/July 2015 and Norway is just emerging from a long winter with the heaviest snowfalls in decades and an unusually cold Spring. The birch and beech trees are only just coming into new leaf whilst down in the valleys spring flowers bloom and strawberries are being harvested. The high mountain lakes are still concealed beneath a covering of ice and snow whilst much snow still covers the higher ground.

  8. London Calling

I have had the idea for this slide show for some time, but a recent visit to the UK allowed me to shoot the images. They required Monochrome conversion with strategic colour. They also needed to be aligned just as they would be if shot from a Tripod, but these were not. All hand held, so align techniques were required to make them line up for the audio visual

  10. Augrabies Falls

The Augrabies Falls are on the Orange River in South Africa. The original Khoikhoi residents named the waterfall Ankoerebis, a "place of big noises".

The gorge at the falls is 240m deep and 18 km long, and is an impressive example of granite erosion.

  17. RONDA

The old town of Ronda in Andalucía, stands in a very dramatic setting on a rocky limestone outcrop straddling the El Tajo gorge. Its new bridge, the Puente Nuevo, was completed in 1793, is 98m above the gorge at its highest and narrowest point and took 42 years to build. Its architect fell to his death whilst inspecting the work.

  20. Kayaking the Upper Zambezi

This show is some video taken while kayaking down the upper Zambezi river in Zimbabwe, just above Victoria Falls, with my wife, niece and nephew. The video was taken years ago with a Hi8 camera, so the resolution is 720x480. The file is in MP4 format because the size of the exe is way too big. Plus, the MP4 format will give you the ability to scale down the playing size so the pixilation might not be too bad. I ran it through Mercalli to help somewhat to stabilize the video.

These inflatable ‘kayaks’ were really unstable. One guy was quite large and kept falling out of the kayak. At one point, we saw a huge hippo lunging toward him, mouth wide open. We all yelled for him to ‘paddle fast’. And thankfully, he did and he did not fall out of the kayak. Unfortunately, I was also too busy paddling away to film it.

I was afraid of getting the video camera wet so I brought along a couple plastic garbage bags. When things got rough, I wrapped it up. That was a good thing because on one rapid, I got tossed out with the camera, but it came out unscathed.

    Hope you enjoy the trip.

  22. Rosewood Railway

We were informed about this old railway that only steams one Sunday per month, but being a fan of old railway yards we decided to take a look mid week. The location is just south west of Brisbane and it was a very hot day, about 32c with bright sun and we got there about 2pm..

So, generally speaking, not the best conditions to shoot images of an old railway where we sometimes struggle with contrast even at the best of times. In bright Australian sun the situation could be a whole lot worse. Having said that, I did have my converted Infra-Red camera with me and I wanted to try that out in those conditions because one thing I have learned with Infra-Red is how tolerant it is with high contrast.

The images were shot and originally viewed in January, but it wasn't until April that I returned to them and saw some potential. Give yourself a bit of time and you will see your own images in a different light to what you did at the time you took them.

  23. Scotland

Winner of the UK Photo Harmony, '5 to 8' Competition, organised by Bridgend Camera Club.

    Judges comments:

“You know when you see the first picture that this is going to be special. The photography throughout is stunning. The Ken Burns effect of gently zooming every image helps keep the momentum going. The "Adagio" from the film "Sunshine" is a wonderful piece and the drama of the music complements the drama of the landscapes completely. Maybe the author should warn the projectionist to keep the volume down during the relatively quiet beginning otherwise the audience will get blown away! The images and transitions are totally in sync with the music. Here is somebody who listens to and knows his music. There is perfect harmony between successive images, shapes, colours, with not a single jarring line or horizon. Great care has been taken constructing this sequence, helped by the fact that the author no doubt has a large number of first class pictures from which to choose. The whole thing builds and develops. Swells in the music are used to highlight the close ups of rocks, barnacles and ice fragments. The percussion is used to show the railway section. When I saw the classic image of the Cullins from Elgol I thought "this is the end", but the final picture was even better. It's clear from the filename (v9) that this has undergone a lengthy period of revision, honing and pruning, so that what we see today is powerful, passionate and intense. This is a good lesson, not to be satisfied with the first attempt. The only criticism I have is that the title is what I would call a "working title". Such a dramatic presentation needs a dramatic title, "The drama of the Highlands" or "Elemental landscape", "Wild Scotland", "Untamed wilderness"...â€
