  2. "Another Place"

These spectacular sculptures by Antony Gormley are on Crosby beach near Liverpool. "Another Place" consists of 100 cast-iron, life-size figures spread out along three kilometres of the foreshore, stretching almost one kilometre out to sea.
The Another Place figures - each one weighing 650 kilos - are made from casts of the artist's own body standing on the beach, all of them looking out to sea, staring at the horizon in silent expectation.
Having previously been seen in Cuxhaven in Germany, Stavanger in Norway and De Panne in Belgium, 'Another Place' is now a permanent feature in the UK, at Crosby Beach. As these Iron men are only visible and accessable at low water we made 2 trips to take pictures. I decided to add a little humour into the show by likening it to an Alfred Hitchcock and X Files production. 17MB 3m 46 seconds run time. Anthony Gormley is also responsible for the iconic "Angel of the North" sculpture.

  3. "Bomber's Moon"

It's funny how an idea for a show comes up from the most unexpected sources sometimes. That's the case with Bomber's Moon, I was researching comedy shows for a forthcoming Comedy AV night, and was looking at Mike Harding's material. If you've never heard of Mike, he was once known as the Rochdale Cowboy & I have seen his show live a couple of times & find him very funny. He does have a serious side though, his song Bomber's Moon came about due to his late father dying on the way back from a WW2 bombing raid.

My take on this is,- besides 2014 being the100th anniversary of the start of WW1, it is also the 70th anniversary of the controversial last mass allied bombing raid in October 1944, when 1,338 bombers and 811 fighters set out to try to bring the war to an early conclusion. The show itself contains Mike's poignant song, a video background, with 25 PNG images. It's 6.5 minutes & due to the video 110MB.

  4. "China Light Zoo" Antwerp

During the Christmas and New Year's period Antwerp Zoo arranged what they called "China Light Zoo".
It reminded me of the few times I was in Taiwan during the "Lantern Festival", a light festival taking place every year on the 15th day of the new Chinese Lunar Year.

It is my very first show here on this "Slideshowclub" site, so I hope you enjoy it.

  13. "The Accrington Pals"

This show is based around another of the songs sung by Mike Harding. It has a particular significance to me as my Dad was born in Accrington & served as a boy soldier in WW1 from 1915 until he was wounded & invalided out of the army.
The show revolves around the song and the subject the Accrington Pals.

In August 1914, during the early days of the First World War, the British Government was hurriedly seeking volunteers to join the armed forces to fight in the fields of Europe. It was suggested by the Government, that men would enlist in this volunteer army more willingly if they could fight alongside their friends and colleagues from their home towns - the concept of the 'Pals' battalion was born.
At 07:30 on July 1 1916, 720 men, the fighting strength of the Accrington Pals, left their trenches and advanced across no man's land towards the village of Serre, only to be met by a hail of machine gun and rifle fire from the German trenches. When the roll was called by RSM Stanworth that evening, less than one hundred men answered their names.

This is a 5 minute show of internet images 35MB.

  14. "Told by the Steeplejack"

This is my take on another monologue from Walter Stanford. This is a parody on Fred Dibnah who I first came across when I worked at a company in Bolton Lancashire. Just down the road from the office lived Fred, who had a pretty flamboyant reputation as a flyer against convention & often passed our office driving a 19th century steam engine at top speed, with fire and smoke belching from the chimney. When he started to appear on TV, I followed his antics, sadly in 2004 he passed away with prostrate cancer. However, before he died, he was awarded the MBE medal for his services to the country & the town recognised this by raising a statue of him in the now city square. The show is 7 minutes long, has some video clips, a voice over & some dodgy animation. It is intended to entertain the audience at our AV nights. the download is 44MB, This one will also be on Youtube..
Just remembered, this is the second show dedicated to him which you can find on my database, it's called "The Hunton Steam Fair, part 1".

  15. "Trouble Town"

"Trouble Town" is a surreal interpretation of a trip to Dungeness made during our Kent holiday. I had the idea for this show before we went away. Dungeness is a place associated with shipwrecks, shanty houses, atomic power station, light houses & the terminus of the Romney Hythe & Dymchurch railway. I read a book as a youngster called "Disaster at Dungeness" which has stuck in my memory. The original version was in colour & mono, I decided to cut it down to mono only. The music was not my original choice, but after watching an absorbing TV cop show called Happy Valley which had this music as a theme, I changed it.
    Mechanics 50mb, 3m 19s run time, 35 slides 3 video clips, 1 music track.

  16. "Two Returns to Liverpool, Please.

Yesterday dawned bright & sunny, what to do? How about a trip to our nearest city, Liverpool. Not realising the schools were on holiday & it was the 25th anniversary of the Hilsboro disaster, we set off determined to do this as cheaply as possible. I had noticed the NCP near our station was advertising £1.50 for all day. On arrival, it had risen to £2.50 & only before 10am, so I rapidly reversed & made our way to the Park & Ride, £1.50 all day. This took us to within a couple of hundred yards to the station, where Merseyrail is free for seniors with a merseyrail seniors pass, including the Mersey Ferries. 45 miutes later we were in the heart of the city, weather sunny but cold. Being impossible to avoid the crowds, I've made it a feature of this show.
Mechanics. Run time 8 minutes, 158MB, 61 slides 6 video clips, 2 music tracks, & a few sound effects. Aspect ratio 16-9 slide size fixed 1920 x1080 pixels. The £14 plus sandwiches & drinks in John Lewis killed the cheap day, but we enjoyed it, hope you do.

You'll need a pretty fast PC to run the PC version without stuttering. I'm trying to upload the Video version which runs on almost anything but having no luck at the moment.
